Domain & DNS Management

Understanding your domain setup and DNS configuration.

Last updated: October 15, 2024

Your domain is your website's address on the internet. Here's what you need to know about managing it.

Domain Registrar vs. DNS

  • Domain Registrar: Where you purchased/registered your domain (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, etc.)
  • DNS (Domain Name System): The system that points your domain to your website's server

Our Recommended Setup

For optimal performance, we recommend:

  • Keep your domain at your current registrar
  • Point your DNS to Cloudflare (we handle this during launch)
  • This gives you enterprise-grade security and performance

Common DNS Records

  • A Record: Points your domain to an IP address
  • CNAME: Points a subdomain to another domain
  • MX Records: For email delivery
  • TXT Records: For verification and security

Email Configuration

Your website and email are separate systems. When we set up your site, we ensure your email continues working by:

  • Preserving existing MX records
  • Adding any necessary SPF/DKIM records
  • Testing email delivery before launch

SSL Certificates

All our sites include free SSL certificates:

  • Automatically provisioned through Cloudflare
  • Auto-renewed (no action needed)
  • Your site will always show as secure (https://)

Making DNS Changes

If you need to make DNS changes:

  • Contact us first—we can usually handle it for you
  • DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate
  • Incorrect changes can cause site or email downtime
